We are delighted to host the first public English Song masterclass to be given by Dame Felicity Lott and pianist Sebastian Wybrew, as part of the performance opportunities provided by the Ashburnham English Song Awards. Four singers and their pianists will present their chosen repertoire before working on it with Dame Felicity Lott and Sebastian Wybrew.
For the audience, this is a fascinating opportunity to open a window onto the way performers work together in preparing repertoire for recitals.
The Awards were established earlier this year by Mezzo Soprano Louise Winter, with the support of Dame Felicity Lott as President, to promote the study, performance and appreciation of the vast and precious repertoire of English Song, from the seventeenth century to the present day. The inaugural competition was won in May 2023 by the Mezzo Soprano Annabel Kennedy and pianist Emily Hoh.
Dame Felicity has recently been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award in this year’s Gramophone Magazine Awards.
Louise Winter is currently touring as Mistress Quickly in the Opera North’s production of Falstaff.
