Born in Namangan, Republic of Uzbekistan, bass Jasurbek Khaydarov graduated from the Republican Uspenski Special Music College before receiving his Bachelor’s degree from the Gnessin Academy of Music in 2023. He is also a graduate of the Young Artist Programme of the Moscow Helikon Opera and, in 2022, joined the Young Opera Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.

During his studies and early professional career, Jasurbek established himself as one of the most promising young basses of his generation. He was awarded the Emerging Voice Prize at the 22nd Concorso Lirico Internazionale Ottavio Ziino and the Young Talent Prize at the 57th International Vocal Competition, and made his UK debut at Wigmore Hall in a recital of Russian songs curated by pianist Iain Burnside.

His repertoire includes Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Masetto in Don Giovanni, Colline in La bohème, Aleko and the Old Gypsy in Aleko, King René in Iolanta, Prince Gremin in Eugene Onegin, the Drunken Poet, Coridon, Winter and Hymen in The Fairy Queen, and Uberto in La serva padrona. At the Bolshoi Theatre, he appeared as the Flemish Deputy in Don Carlo and also featured in War and Peace.

Following his participation in the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, Jasurbek joined the Dutch National Opera Studio through the 2025/26 season. Recent highlights include Colline in La bohème at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, the Imperial Commissioner in Madama Butterfly at both the Baden-Baden Osterfestspiele and with the Berliner Philharmoniker under Kirill Petrenko, Shelkalov in Boris Godunov at Dutch National Opera, Lodovico in Verdi’s Otello at Opéra national du Rhin, and Mozart’s Requiem at the Concertgebouw.

Alongside his operatic engagements, Jasurbek has continued to expand his concert repertoire with appearances across Europe, including bass soloist performances in Mozart’s Requiem and concert performances of Berlioz’s L’enfance du Christ. His upcoming engagements include Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Bertrand in Iolanta with Dutch National Opera, Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Opéra de Toulon, and Alidoro in Rossini’s La Cenerentola with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Internationally acclaimed as a leading collaborative pianist, (pretty much ideal, BBC Music Magazine) Iain Burnside has worked with many of the world’s great singers. His discography features over fifty CDs, spanning a huge sweep of repertoire. Highlights include the Gramophone Award-winning NMC Songbook, Schubert cycles with baritone Roderick Williams on Chandos and a series of English Song for Naxos. He enjoys a close relationship with Delphian, featuring boxed sets of Medtner and Rachmaninoff (“the results are electrifying” Daily Telegraph) as well as explorations of Scottish, English and Irish repertoire. He is Artistic Director of the Ludlow English Song Weekend and curates programmes for a variety of festivals and at Wigmore Hall, most recently with a spotlight on Russian song.

Burnside is also an award-winning broadcaster, familiar to listeners of BBC Radio 3, earning a Sony Radio Award for Voices. He has pioneered a particular form of dramatic concert, with works based variously around Franz Schubert, Clara Schumann and Ivor Gurney. His most recent piece, A View from the Villa, unpicks Wagner’s relationship with Mathilde Wesendonck, and will feature at festivals in 2021. He has a long association with the Guildhall School and gives masterclasses at home and abroad whilst also holding the position of Artistic Consultant to Grange Park Opera.

“His lightness of touch, his expertise in balancing and supporting the voices, and his sheer love for this exquisite repertoire are simply matchless.” Primephonic
